Divine Intervention and a Classic Mountain Scene

As if by divine intervention the clouds parted for the start of the Boardercross section of the Primo Peak to Porridge surf and snow event. Sunshine and fresh powder snow greeted 20 competitors in a stunning alpine setting while the cloud swirled under and around the Remarkables area.

The Boardercross course was in primo condition with some epic air on the last section proving more than a challenge for some of the competitors. A steep ramp at the end left those with too little speed a demoralising "bunny hop" through the finish. More experienced riders were easily clearing the ramp with some impressive leaps.

In the men's Jeremy Scott from Dunedin defended a narrow lead to take out first place with Steve Pelham from Queenstown and Richard Brown form Invercargill taking 2nd and 3rd.

Katherine Doer from Meadowbank was too strong in the women's with arch rival Jessie Terill from Methven second and Marama Pou from Riverton third.

Competitors now head to Riverton for the surfing leg to be held on Saturday 21 September and a combined winner decided by combining points form both events.
