FIFTH ANNUAL SURF AND SNOW IN THE SOUTH

The Fifth Annual Primo Peak to Porridge is set for a new venue with the Boardercross being moved from Coronet Peak to the twin peaks of the Remarkables. Local terrain park guru Nick Frankel says the boardercross course was especially built for the recent Snowboard Nationals. "Competitors loved the fast technical nature of the course with heaps of features including table tops, rollers and berms" said Nick.

Last years Primo Peak to Porridge competition proved to be an enormous success with local and international competitors raving about the sublime surf in howling equinox so'westerlies and a 5 metre swell! "A whole bunch of relaxed competitors and unofficials that had a ball" says organiser Evan Bloomfield.

Starting at the Remarkables with a Boardercross then heading to the infamous South Coast surf spot Porridge this is a classic end of season event where everyone can relax a bit and enjoy the mountain and sea environment without the high anxiety of performance pressure. A chance to get on in, get involved and slide the way through the end of season with some spring snow in the hills and a classic southland surf session.

A field of about 40 competitors are expected to race it out on The Remarkables on Friday 20 September. Many of them then race down to Riverton to do the "snow and surf in a day double". "With surf only two hours from the snow and the lingering spring evenings that's entirely achievable" says Evan.

Porridge, which is just out of Riverton is the venue for the surfing leg of the competition on Saturday the 21st of September. The overall title is determined by adding the points from the boarder cross and surfing competitions.

Entry forms are available at The Fridge in Invercargill, S&C Snowboard Shop in Queenstown, at the Remarkables on the day or online. All online entries go in the draw to win their entry fee back.
