PRESS RELEASE September 10, 2001 SNOW AND SURF IN THE SOUTH Last years Primo Peak to Porridge competition proved to be an enormous success with local and international competitors raving about the spring snow, the prizes and the hangi. "Riverton was spectacular ", says organiser Evan Bloomfield. " The mens final was held in a severe hail storm with driving wind.". Starting at Coronet Peak with a Boardercross then heading to the infamous South Coast surf spot Porridge this is a classic end of season event where everyone can relax a bit and enjoy the mountain and sea environment without the high anxiety of performance pressure. A field of about 30 competitors are expected to race it out in a boarder cross on Coronet Peak on Friday 21 September. Many of them then race down to Riverton to do the "snow and surf in a day double". "With surf only two hours from the snow and the lingering spring evenings that's entirely achievable" says Evan. Porridge, which is just out of Riverton is the venue for the surfing leg of the competition on the 22nd of September. The overall title is determined by adding the points from the boarder cross and surfing competitions.
